Hello!
I'm a scientist, a biologist to be more specific (a molecular parsitologist to be even more so), from the North of England. I'm currently doing a PhD in molecular parasitology. However, as I'm sure is true with everyone, I do not want to be defined by my job, so I suppose I'd better pick a few more labels: I'm a secular humanist (quite a vocal one), a music-lover, a socialist (to those on the right-wing, please try not to confuse this with communist, they are two different things), a liberal (that's not a dirty word on this side of the atlantic), a skeptic and a feminist (though perhaps surprisingly male). Perhaps I should clarify the last of these since the word has become somewhat misinterpreted: I believe all people should have equal human rights and opportunities. I also believe that men and women are treated differently in our society and certain things are expected of men and women solely because of their gender and I believe this is wrong. Don't worry though, I'm also against racism, homophobia and all that jazz.
Anyways, this is already becoming too long. I'm not entirely sure how I'm gonna use this blog yet. Basically, it's likely to become a mixture of me saying things that are going on in my life as well as numerous rants about religion, politics, science and anything else which happens to catch my attention, and perhaps get my hackles (great word) up, throughout the day. On top of that, I'm sure there'll be musical interludes, comments on any particular book I might be reading and just normal chit-chat.
As you can already tell, I'm very prone to divergence from any direction I may be taking, so it's unlikely to be organised in any way. Anyways, I doubt much is gonna be friends-onlied so read if you like and add if you really like.
Toodles.
